Corona Virus update from YWAM Nelson New Zealand
Updated 26 March 2020
Greetings in Jesus’ Name!
The emergence and escalating spread of the COVID-19 virus has been having a massive impact on our international and local communities. Governments all over the world as well as here in NZ are imposing travel/border restrictions and preventative measures in order to minimise cross-infection.
The leadership of YWAM Nelson has been monitoring the situation very closely for the last few weeks. Our YWAM community are kept informed of all developments and recommendations from government and relevant authorities. We are working with each individual in our base and their respective families to help them make the right choices concerning returning home or staying within our community. Those who have decided to stay, particularly students who have been supported by their parents to remain, will continue to have their DTS lecture phase within a lockdown environment to ensure safety. Lockdown means no coming and going to and from the base and hygiene practices as recommended by the Ministry of Health are in place. No visitors are allowed into our facility including all community volunteers.
Our April 20 Presence Crossroads DTS has been postponed until further notice. However applications for this school are still being accepted.
Our September quarter DTS is still being planned to proceed but the Around the World in 80 Days DTS theme has been postponed until 2021. Applications are welcome for all future schools.
We will continue to monitor global conditions over the coming months which may affect the above.
In closing, there is a real peace and unity in our decision making as a YWAM community and we have a real sense of God using the current situation as a preparation for the outpouring of His amazing presence over our base, our city and the whole of Nelson-Tasman region and beyond.
