What Is A DTS?
A Discipleship Training School or (DTS) is a 12-16 week missionary training course designed to help you become a true disciple of Jesus. It is split into 2 main parts. The Lecture Phase and the Outreach Phase.
Lecture Phase
Know God
The first part of the DTS, the 12-week Lecture Phase, is based on our Nelson campus.
Weekly lectures by different speakers from around the world focus on a range of subjects such as how to hear God’s voice, pray and intercede, and reach others for Christ.
These lectures provide a rich tapestry of learning experiences.
The purpose of this phase is to help you grow in your faith and in the knowledge of God.
It fosters spiritual transformation and equips you for future ministry endeavors.

Outreach Phase
Make Him Known
The second part of the course is called the Outreach Phase, where we go out and put into practice what we’ve learned in the Lecture Phase.
Each school’s Outreach Phase is a unique experience.
In the current post-pandemic season, the outreaches will focus on ministering to people here in New Zealand by sharing the love of God for His children and calling people into a relationship with Him.
The goal is to share God’s love with people who may have never experienced it.

Week 7 - Holy Spirit
Week 8 - Apologetics
Week 9 - Evangelism
Week 10 - Biblical Worldview
Week 11 - Missions
Week 12 - Debriefing/ReEntry

We believe that it’s equally important to know God, and to make Him known to others. This is the ultimate purpose of a DTS, and it is the ethos by which we continue to live at YWAM. DTS is an experience you’ll remember for the rest of your life, and give you a great foundation for your Christian journey going forward.
